English has become the most used international language because of the impact that the British Empire had on the world. The English had conquered so much of the world that a phrase was created to describe their empire. "The sun never sets on the British Empire." And, whenever they conquered a country, they forced the natives to use English as their official language. So English became very widespread, especially in business. In the coming decades, we will see what impact China has on the world and if Mandarin will spread as well!
