Very insightful, Joy. I hope others will comment or answer. I think it is important to find out what works for each individual--as you suggested. It would be interesting to me to find out, from a students perspective, what makes a class a success. Thanks for commenting.

I think the answer depends on different people and their learning needs. People come here with different goals. Some are self-motivated learners who look for steady and fast improvement; A lot of others are simply for fun, which means that they're not critical of the content as long as you are having a nice conversation. I guess understanding each student's expectation and setting study plan together with him/her would be of a lot of help. Personally, I would prefer an adaptive teacher who can give me exactly what I want. I would like to be pushed by an inspiring environment created by the teachers, with loads of information, and some guided challenges. I also enjoy good personal interaction with the teacher. Everytime when I talk to an inspiring person, I feel my life is changed somewhat in a positive way. So a successful class extends further than the development of language skills. I guess my answer does not provide details to specific way of a class that worked for me.Because basically if I communicate with the teacher well(in terms of goals and expectations), I wouldn't care much about the form it takes. I've enjoyed my session with you and found the one-on-one discussion over my writing with simultaneous screen sharing is productive. I think you are an amazingly good teacher with both the professional knowledge and the desire to help. Like what you are doing here-collecting suggestions- is good enough to show how much you care for your students.
