Heavy could have three meanings in this context:
" the box is getting too heavy (to carry)" - physical weight is high
"her sickness is getting too heavy for me". emotional intensity of something is high
"this conversation is getting too heavy" the intellectual level or intensity is high

It can also mean that someone is getting too fat
