学 is a verb . it can be used like this : 我正在学汉语。（I'm learing Chinese now) 学习 can be usd as a verb or noun, for example:我正在学习汉语，in this sentence, 学习 is a verb . An other example :学习可以使我们获取更多的知识（Learing can make us aquire more knowledge), and in this sentence,学习is a noun.

I myself have the same question...though I think 学习 is more like -to learn- while just 学 is like -to study- Just my opinion, I still wait for the answers from native speakers hehe

They are both verbs~In oral Chinese~there are almost no difference~They both mean "to learn"
