Well, "gör" is present tense (or imperative) and "göra" is infinitive. Gör is usually used when you are talking about something you do right now. "To do" = "Att göra". So whever you say "To do" in an English sentence it's "att göra".
Pres. tense:
Vad gör du? = What are you doing?
Jag gör ingenting = I'm doing nothing.
Imperative:
Gör det! = Do it!
Infinitive:
Det är inte kul att göra(laga) mat = It's not fun to make(cook) food.
Jag gillar inte att göra det här = I don't like to do this.
Just a note: English often uses the gerund "ing" instead of the basic present tense. But "doing" can be either "gör" or "göra" depending on the context.

Hi,
You use "gör" in present tense - ex "Jag gör allt just nu" - "I'm doing everything right now"
And "göra" is the infinitive tense - "att göra" ex: "att göra ingenting" - "to do nothing" but it is also used in future tense, ex: "jag ska göra allt" - "I will do everything"
Hope this helps:)
