为什么师范大学被叫做 NORMAL UNIVERSITY 为什么师范大学被叫做 NORMAL UNIVERSITY - this confused me for many years.Sometimes I feel strange to tell others I graduated from a NORMAL university.....Normal means plain, ordinary, simple also....Why is a university that trains teachers called "normal university"?

A normal university is one that trains its students to be teachers. It is called a normal university because it trains students in teaching standards, or 'norms', as they are sometimes called. Hence, the name.
