difference between "result" and "consequence".

The word "consequence" is a kind of result, usually following some action or effect. If I were do do something wrong, there would be consequences. We might also refer to an influential person as someone of consequence. A "result", as I indicated, is much more general, meaning the end conclusion or outcome of some process, like a test grade or the score of a ballgame.
