Use "do you have" when you are asking if someone has a THING or a NOUN. C'est qqc comme... "Do you HAVE?" = "Avez- vouz qqc?" = "Avez vous une voiture?" = Do you have a car?" ... "Avez-vous une maison?" = Do you have a house? Do you have a CAR? = noun (car) Do you have a HOUSE? = noun (house) Use "have you" when they have DONE SOMETHING or with a VERB ... Eg. "Vous avez faties qqc?" = Have you DONE something? ... OR... Avez-vous regardé "The Walking Dead" = Have you SEEN The Walking Dead? Have you DONE something? = Verb (done) Have you SEEN The Walking Dead? = Verb (seen) "Etes-vous allé en France?" = "Have you BEEN in France?" [in French we would use Etre as opposed to Avoir here ... but in English there is no distinction]. Have you BEEN to France? = VERB (been) J'espere que je peux vous aider. Depuis cinq ans je ne parle pas Francais. Good luck and take care !

If you are talking about the verb "to have" in a sense of possession, there is no difference. For example: "Have you (got) any money?" "Do you have any money?" "Have you any idea how far it is?" "Do you have any idea of how far it is?" They both mean the same thing; however, in the U.S., the first expression is slightly archaic (old fashioned) so you probably won't hear it very often. We prefer to say "Do you have...?" People will understand you either way, though. They still say that in other English-speaking countries such as the U.K. It's a matter of preference. When "have" is used for the present perfect tense, the phrase "Have you...?" would introduce a question asking you about something you did (have done) in the past. You cannot say "Do you have" in this situation. For example: "Have you eaten today?" (Did you eat at some point today?) This tense is used to describe past actions at an undefined moment in time in the past.

have you: Have you ever done a certain activity? Example: Have you ever travelled to New York City? Have you ever eaten frog? do you have: Do you own or live with (something or someone)? Example: Do you have a car? Do you have a brother or sister?
