Is "merge" used as noun?
Stock prices fell due to rumors of a company merge.
"merge" is verb. This sentence use "merge" is correct? Why no "merging"?

I think this is one of the things that people use all the time so it looks right, but is technically not correct.
The actual noun is "merger", and it should be a "company merger". A merger is the product of two things joining.

It's a really big ask to get PR people to not use verbs as nouns & vice versa.
