What is the difference between "because of" and "on account of"? structure usage

Structurally, they are used similarly. ex. I got caught because of bad planning I got caught on account of bad planning Both are used to describe something that results because of something else However, using account of is a very awkward way to say it. Most people will just use because or because of. Using account of is usually used by police officers when they charge you for breaking the law
