i am studying about hypocoristic suffix's rule or precedences which means about nickname and I want to know clear details about the topics. anything will be fine. please give me your opinion of them or answer!

Usually in the US its adding "-y" or "-ie" to the end of a word, sometimes shortened stem. For example calling John "Johnny". Or for example shortening Sweetheart to "Sweetie"
