For American English: Using "in future" only happens when "future" is used as a noun adjunct. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noun_adjunct
Examples: "in future events", "in future episodes", "in future articles about this subject", "in future reports on this issue".
Otherwise, use "in the future".
In British English, "in future" can seemingly be used by itself. I don't have much feel for British English, though. To me, "in future" looks wrong.
See http://english.stackexchange.com/questions/2005/do-in-future-and-in-the-future-imply-different-meanings for discussion.

In Australian English, we commonly use "in future" to mean "next time". It's a general meaning. For example, "I hope you'll pay more attention in future."
"In the future" is exactly that... but far too specific for a general phrase.
