Both are understandable. I would say the second is slightly more grammatical, while the first is slightly more of a normal way of speaking, but I think it would be both more grammatical and more common for someone to say either: It's too soon to venture a guess as to what went wrong. It's too soon to venture a guess about what went wrong.

It's too soon to guess what went wrong.
