can anyone explain what he meant by 'take it away from the comedy?'

"...you have delight stuff and then something really sad happens but the audience are with you
and If they're with you at a tragic moment, you've performed well.
you've earned that moment to take it away from the comedy. To take and give it
some poignancy. And I think that's my favourite thing about the comedy: if the writing's correct."

It means you can feel like you did something well, and feel proud of your abilities.
"The audience was so involved, that shows me that I performed well. I'll remember/keep that moment for the rest of my life".
Keep/take.
Like taking nourishment from food, you can take lessons/knowledge/pride from experiences.

Earlier, he mentions that you have to "earn your moments''. He expresses his opinion that visual entertainment should have story lines that build and reward viewers for following the emotions as they are presented. He seems to justify the inclusion of sad or tragic elements within comedy.
The expression "take away" means to remember and possibly value as a life lesson.

It would be difficult to give a word by word analysis because it would be so utterly complicated. His phrasing is slightly unsual.
He is saying about earning the right to take and give "poignancy" ("poin-Yan-cee")
that the cast was able to make a truly humorous performance.
When something is said or written in a straightforward way, it is easy to understand.
When something is said or written in a more indirect or oblique manner, it is best, I think, that you simply accept that the meaning is a general idea.
Here, it is indicated that the performance was rich in humor and a great success.
. The actors and writers can take away all the credit that they have earned.
