Hello
what is the difference between these two? they are both translated as "to visit"

There are several translations for "to visit" and the two you asked means the same.
(Basically, we use 訪問する[ほうもんする]、訪れる but sometimes we say 行く、見学する[けんがくする]、見物する[けんぶつする], and we also have the word お見舞いに行く[おみまいにいく] / 見舞う[みまう] for "visit someone who is sick".)
I hope this was helpful.

Sweetie, meaning-wise, there is no difference between them. They are interchangeable, though the former is more formal than the latter!
