Little baby steps my friend! Learn the basic questions your name, how old you are, where your from. Think of everything that you talk about when you first meet someone. Write a personal bio of yourself, goals and interests. Then post it here on Italki and we will correct it for you (if there are any mistakes ;) ). I found learning to ask the basic questions like "How do you say that", "What does that mean" etc. Start speaking the language as soon as you can. Don't bury your nose straight in a book learning grammar, that comes later Any questions message me!

Repetition, repetition, repetition. I can't suggest particular resources for English, but I know that the Pimsleur tapes work well for English speakers. You have to learn both individual sounds and words, and how to use intonation within sentences, so make sure to practice (and if you can, get someone to correct you) on both.

(1) Familiarize yourself with the American English sound system. Learn the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) symbols as they relate to the American phonology. If you study all the individual sounds that occur in our language (as well as knowing which ones don't) you will have a much better time of picking these sounds out and using them when you speak. The intonation isn't always perfect, but the individual sounds are always accurate. You can also choose a more permanent solutions by purchasing and installing a voice on your computer to read any amount of text with an American accent from: http://www.acapela-group.com/voices/demo/ (3) Learn and sing along to songs by American singers. I recently heard a Dutch boy sing When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars with an impeccable American accent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo20r7ZxzcE Find a language partner that can help you with phrasing and intonation. This should be someone with a standard accent (not too Southern and not too Northern) that can help you pronounce the English you already know - not teach you English. Good luck!
