I try not to use figures in my writing practice, so by writing "quinientos treinta y seis" instead of "536" helps me.

Numbers in a foreign language are hard. It gets easier with time, but it's still hard. Even with speaking. Hell, I even said "diecicuatro" once without thinking. I think it just takes time.
