How to say "elder" in japanese? There are some ways to say elder that I know, but, is there differences (of respect, maybe?) between these words? 年上、浪人、長老、年寄り。 Is there other ways to say it? Which one is better to say? Thanks for reading!

年上=older 浪人= masterless samurai, a student who failed entrance exams, vagabond 長老=important senior people in a community 年寄り=senior people You can also say 老人 (senior people). I think お年寄り is best in everyday conversation. It's the most general word for senior people.
