Josh is saying that her reasons had nothing to do with him, so he has no right or reason to be angry.
However, from this tiny passage, the fact that he said, "I always assumed..." to me says that he may have been the reason she tried to kill herself, but he only learned that recently. Maybe she told him that he was part of the reason? I've never read this, so I can't say for sure.
