A question about a Dutch sentence "I think that they were his sister and her son." I translated this sentence as follows: " Ik denk dat zij zijn zus en haar zoon waren.", but I'm not sure whether this sentence is correct...:( Kan iemand hem voor mij nakijken?

hi mako, your sentence is grammatically correct (y) but here you'll be more likely to hear 'ik denk dat het zijn zus en haar zoon was'. :)
