What's the proper word or phrase to decribe this? if I tell someone that I've got a cold, but he just says "well ,drink more water and you will be fine".In fact,he doesn't care about me,and he said that just in order to show politeness. then, what should I say to him? “perfunctory”seems formal, are there any better words or phrase?

Hi Vivian, There are two ways I can help you with this: either to give a sentence for the conversation, or give you some ideas to think about. Some simple responses could be: "Should I take any medicine?" "Do you know a good doctor?" "Do I have a temperature?" "Have you had this cold?" If you want to find out why the response was abrupt, consider: He may be trying to be tough, and giving you what we call "tough love". He may not want to show his feelings to you. He may not know anything about colds! Good luck and I hope you get better!

you can say "I think you are being insincere, I really am struggling here" you could also say "that sounds like you are lacking sincerity" I would usually make a joke of it to avoid bad feeling and say "well, you might as well say it as if you meant it!" - that way is safer because it shows that you understand what hes done but it also is funny and he will laugh. Another funny response is "you really don't care, do you?" (while smiling)
