This is one of those situations where you have to listen and pay attention, because there are a few colloquial forms. Here are some basic guidelines... "I've got..." = "I have" (notice that the phrase is not "I have got") "Got" is the simple past tense. It means something more like "receive" or "take", and not about possession. There are many more things to learn about this, but this is a start. "We've got visitors" means there are visitors at your place now. "We got visitors" is about the past, and to be honest it sounds a little strange in standard English. "I've got a pistol" means there is a pistol in your possession now. "I had a pistol" is about the past, and it's clear that you do not have a pistol now.

have got means to tell someone in tense of present perfect but " got " means to tell someone in past simple tense
