Words for Korean Family Members? I was looking up vocabulary for the Korean words for family members, and seem to be having some difficulty in distinguishing between certain terms. For example, for sister-in-law (younger brother's wife), there seems to be two terms: 제수 and 계수. Is one used more often, or is there any difference between the two? Additionally, I couldn't find the words for: * wife's younger/older sister (sister-in-law) * wife's older/younger brother (brother-in-law; I found 아주버니, but I'm not sure if it's the word for her older or younger brother) * younger/older sister's husband (brother-in-law) * adopted son/daughter Also, when I was looking for the word for 'wife,' I found '아내,' but I've read that this isn't used that often. Is this true? If so, what is a different word that I could use instead? And finally, what is the word for 'family member'? I'm pretty sure 'family' is '가족,' but what is the word for an individual family member? 감사합니다!

* younger brother's wife 제수 or 계수 제수 is more commonly used than 계수 계수 originally means the youngest brother's wife. * wife's younger sister 처제 * wife's older sister 처형 * wife's younger brother 형님 or 처남 * wife's older brother 처남 * younger sister's husband 매제 * older sister's husband 매형 * adopted son 양자 * adopted daughter 양녀 아주버니 or 아주버님 is husband's older brother Calling your wife: 여보 – honey 당신 – an affectionate term for you. 아내 – referring the wife to non-relatives. 에미 – referring to the mother in front of an adults with children, i.e. the parents of your children. 부인 – literal meaning of ‘Mrs’ and can be used either to address the wife directly or for referring the wife when talking to others. 안사람 – referring to the wife while talking to other people, literally means ‘the inside person’ since wives stayed in the inner quarters of the house back then. The literal translation of 'family member' is 가족 구성원. But, you can also use 가족 as a meaning of 'family member'.
