the definite article Are there any cases when using or omitting the definite article in a sentence makes no difference to the meaning and correctness of the sentence?

Yes, that's possible. For example, yesterday a member asked whether we say 'If you have time' or 'If you have the time'. The first refers to some time in general, while the second means 'the time needed to do this job'. But in effect, the meaning is exactly the same.
