"Der Kletterer in der Wand" or "an der Wand" Das Bild an der Wand. Aber "Der Kletterer in der Wand." not an der Wand? The positions of the picture and the climber are the same (please, just don't say, that the wall is not the same). "In der Wand auch die Risse, die Ziegel, ..." can bee found. The crack and the brick are really in the wall, but the climber (if he's not resting in the hole in the wall) is on the wall, like picture is. Is it "in der Wand" in this case one kind of an exception or almost a phrase. Mostly I'd like to find out, if "an der Wand" is totally wrong, if we're talking about climer's position.

Hey in der Wand is for real big walls or that you wanna underline that it is very impressive that sb. is climbing in this wall.

Thank you for your answer. In Slovene our talking about this is exactly the same. Sb. or sth. is on the wall (2,5m high) in the flat, but in the wall somewhere in the nature, even if the wall is just a few meters high.

Yes, we indeed say "in der Wand" in German for a climber, even though, as you correctly pointed out, he literally is more "an der Wand" and not inside of it. I would use it also for small walls, as long as it is a climber we are talking about.
