In the states at least, most people talk about getting an allowance from their parents.  The "allowance" being their pocket money they received usually in return for doing chores around the house or cleaning their rooms.  Having received my allowance, my instinct to spend immediately usually won out and I'd go get some little something from the store.  To this day I find it hard to save.
