Two Languages at once good idea or not? Hi! For the past two years I've been learning Spanish in my college, also I decided to learn Italian in my own time about a year ago. I progressed fast but got to a point where I was mixing the two languages up too much. I heard people say you should focus on one project at a time. I have a great desire to become fluent in both languages. But I have noticed since I put my Italian on hold my Spanish has progressed much more. I decided to put Italian on hold mostly because of my Spanish exams but now the exam season is over I am very tempted to try and take the challenge of learning the two simultaneously again. I have more free time now with it nearing summer I think I have a good opportunity to regain my Italian knowledge and press it further... or alternatively should I carry on focused only on Spanish (currently between B1/B2 Intermediate) until I'm fluent and then come back to Italian? Thanks for the advice!

Hi Antony! I think it all depends on what you want or need to do with your language skills. If you are satisfied with your current Spanish level and don't need to improve it further, then you can resume learning Italian. Of course, as you already know, learning two languages that are close to each other can be hard because you can easily mix them up. Learning two languages at the same time is certainly doable, but I think the more unrelated with one another, the better. Spanish and Italian at the same time can be a more difficult pair, but not an impossible one! Let me know if I can help you with Italian, Michele

If you have energy and time to try to study two languages at the same time, I think you should try to do it. At universities people usually study more than one foreign language at the same time.
