meaning of a sentence! Does "As an anthropologist, Steven Mithen traces the way in which the human mind has evolved in an ongoing active engagement with the natural environment, developing technical, natural history, social and linguistic intelligences which continually interact, questing, imagining and suggesting new constructs to explain and predict structure and behaviour." mean "As an anthropologist, Steven Mithen traces the way in which the human mind has evolved in an ongoing active engagement with the natural environment; the human mind that has developed technical and natural history and social and linguistic intelligences and has always quested, imagined, and suggested new constructs in order to explain and predict structures and behaviours." I mean do all of those "ing" forms refer to what "the human mind" has done through the history?

I believe it means that the human mind has developed technical, natural history, social and linguistic intelligences, and that the technical, natural history, social, and linguistic intelligences are the things which quest, imagine and suggest new constructs. So, grammatically, no, the "ing" forms refer to what the different types of intelligences have done throughout history. But, if you're talking about semantics, the human mind created these intelligences, so I would say that it is referring to what the human mind did by using these intelligences. Hope that makes sense! :)
