"merit close attention to in the years ahead" I am confused about one expression in the following description of Alphabet, Google's parent: "This quarter the company is sharing details about the financial performance of business units other than Google, so investors will see how much the firm is losing on its "moonshot" projects. These figures will merit close attention to in the years ahead, as Alphabet tries to reposition itself from a successful advertising business to a thriving life-sciences, space and self-driving car firm that also does advertising." Do you think there should not be a "to" in "merit close attention to in the years ahead"? I think the correct way should be "These figures will merit close attention in the years ahead". Thanks a lot!
