Backdrops “Ali was a photographer who was working on a series called “The History of Asians in America,” for which he created a photograph to represent every decade of Asians in America since 1890. For each image, he made a different diorama representing an epochal event or theme in one of the three-foot-square pine boxes that Richard had built for him, which he populated with little plastic figures he bought at the craft store and painted, and trees and roads that he glazed from potter’s clay, and backdrops he rendered with a brush whose bristles were so fine they resembled eyelashes. He then shot the dioramas and made C-prints.” HOW TO understand『 and backdrops he rendered with a brush whose bristles were so fine they resembled eyelashes.』 A: well, first of all, I have no idea what's the meaning of backdrops B:so I don't know the meaning of backdrops, so the following words meaning are hard to figure out for me.

"backdrop" (= back-cloth): the rear curtain of a stage setting at a theater. It usually has the background scenery drawn on it to go with other stage prop. It is usually in singular (no "s"), but here, there are many pine box stages, with one backdrop for each. "and backdrops he rendered with a brush whose bristles were so fine they resembled eyelashes" = For each image, he made ... and backdrops he rendered... => For each image, he made ... a backdrop by carefully painting it with a brush which had fine bristles (hairs) like eyelashes.
