몇가지 비슷한 예문만 올려보겠습니다.
- "지난 일을 후회해서 무슨소용있어? "(= 지난일은 후회해도 소용없다.)
- 엎질러진 물인데  어쩔 도리가 없다.
- 이미 벌어진 일, 후회해도 소용이 없다.
- 이미 저지른 일을 후회해 봐야 소용이 없다. 
  ( could't use to elder person , because 저지르다 is  very casual  word.)

In this case, 아/어/여 봐야 is added to describe subjunctive situation. And it is used to express the conditions whatever effort is made, the result can not be changed. So after 아/어/여야 clause, negative phrase is followed.

후회해 봐야 puts more emphasis on "regret" than 후회해도.
