To begin with,I am an English major student. So I gotta to say this is also my biggest problem now especially when I am trying to write an essay or something accademical.Memerizing words could be fun when you are digging its root. So my suggestion here is do not recite them from vocabulary but from articles and try to use them to repalce those words you already used too much. For example, use significant but not important,etc. Hope this is useful!=)

As with any language vocabulary study, the key is regular practice! I suggest a spaced-repetition tool like Memrise (http://www.memrise.com) where you can learn new vocabulary. The program will focus on teaching you words that you are having a harder time memorizing, so your time is spent as efficiently as possible.
