change something for something
Is this expression used anywhere outside the UK? (if you change something you have bought, you take it back to the shop and get a different one)
Why don't you change it for something else?

We also say "exchange" instead of "change" in Singapore (where the official "version" of English we adopt is British)!

In America, we would say "exchange." (I'm surprised to hear the in the UK they would say "change" here.)
