查了一下资料，我觉得要解释清楚“把”的用法，不是一两句话能说清的，你还是先大量的去记忆母语的使用实例吧。词典上的解释未必能有什么帮助。

把書給我 this means give me the book 把is help us describe the action of give,but not an adjective.

把：手掌附着（catch）在柄部（such as a rail of stair, a bar...）表面. this is the reason of why we refer to a knife as 一“把”刀 把 noun ： you catch the noun 把 noun 怎么样：怎么： how ，样：appearance. you catch the noun and then what do you want to make it to be（make it to be adj or noun just like sth‘s appearance/looks changed by you） 把noun做什么： you catch the noun and then what do you want to do? 把 noun 给我：you catch the noun and then give it to me. noun can be a concrete or abstract. but when you say 把水喝掉，actually, the object you catch is not the water, but the cup.

I agree with @wang haoyu, don't rely on dictionary.
