hi a question the different ways to say arrive Hi, I see that arrived can be said as daoda, as dao, as dao le, as daolai Could you explain to me when to use them? I wasn't able to find much about it. Also, I'm following pimsleur and just learned to say wo zuotian shi daoda. I arrived yesterday. Why would I need the "shi"? and is it correct to say wo zuotian daole? Thanks much!!

Daoda is kind of formal . it is usually used as 'Dao da shi jian' which means arrival time. Dao has the same meaning with Daoda, but it is used in future tense for most of the time , for example : ni ji dian zhong dao? (你几点钟到) ,which means when will you arrive . But if you add 'de' (的)after 'dao', it can be used in past tense : for example : wo zuo tian dao de , which means i arrived yesterday Daole means have/has arrived , for example : Wo dao le (我到了) ,which means i have arrived . But there is another usage, Dao + some place + le , for example: Wo dao Shanghai le (我到上海了) ,which means i have arrived in Shanghai Daolai means will arrive. It is also kind of formal , we don't use it a lot 'wo zuotian shi daoda' is a wrong sentence ,you can say wo shi zuotian daoda de / wo shi zuotian dao de instead and 'wo zuotian dao le' is absolutely correct! Please let me know if you don't understand :)

daoda 到达 --verb\noun depend on which situation you use it.also have the same meaning with "dao " dao 到 --verb. you can use it anytime when you speaking dao le 到了--have arrived daolai 到来--something\somebody is coming or will arrive. wo zuotian shi daoda--- you should need "shi" that's wrong. you just say "wo zuo tian dao de"我昨天到的 that mean you arrived yeasterday 'wo zuotian daole' we don't use 'le' just use 'de' better when we speaking Chinese, we don't use too much tense . i hope that can help you``

dao4da2-in text format; dao4-only the word, without tense; dao4le-perfect tense, used more in oral speaking; dao4lai2-emphasize lai2 (come); used more in text format; I arrived yesterday should say that wo3 (shi4) zhuo2 tian1 dao4 de.
