Si tirano pietre -- they throw stones.
Ma non capisco la grammatica. È riflessivo (tirarsi) -- they throw stones at each other?
Oppure, è "si" il oggetto diretto? The stones.

Hi -- but out of the context, this sentence can be formally interpreted in two ways: as two men throwing stones at each other (above said); 2) and as an impersonal --say-- "environmental" state of facts, sounds as: in a certain place you have to be careful because "stones are thrown" (= le pietre sono tirate, is the reverse construction): eg in a rally.

(loro) SOGGETTO
si COMPLEMENTO DI TERMINE (a chi ?)
tirano VERBO
le pietre COMPLEMENTO OGGETTO (che cosa?)
"riflessivo indiretto: in questo caso il si coincide con il soggetto ma svolge la funzione di complemento di termine e dunque di complemento indiretto"
