Nate
Could you tell me what the difference is between"He is finished" and "He finished" in the sentence? Hi! I read an article, I was confused of this sentence, When he is finished, Peter says, " I'm proud of you, buddy." Can I revise it as "when he finished'? What is the difference between them? Please explain it in English. Thanks. ---------the below is updated: The context is, Joseph delivers a speech about his dog. When he is finished, fellow member Peter says, " I'm proud of you, buddy." Thanks.

I agree with one of the other commenters, a little more context is needed as there could be more than one way to explain it depending on the situation

He finished the work. (Active sentence) __________________________________________ He is finished/ It is mostly used in some particular conditions such as "finishing a book" or "finishing an exam paper".

Seems like we may need more context to understand what the situation is. Could also say When finished,...Depending on the context.
