Kadin or Hatun?
I'm asking this question because I'm watching the Turkish TV series "Kosem" and the actors always repeat "Hatun".. my people translate it as "Woman" that is equal to "Kadin".
I also watched the TV series "Sultan Suleyman" and the translation was the same.
Is there any Turk who can explain this to me with more details and also give me some examples, please.
Hello,
It's a litlle bit old word that means; 'woman, especially in relation with the speaker.'
But nowadays we don't use this word. You can hear this word mostly in films or tv series about Ottoman Empire.
I hope it could help

Simply, it was used to adress respect to women who have high statue in society, mostly in Ottoman era but it dates back to ancient times of Turkish language. It is not common in daily language of today.
