-기 바라다, -기 바라며, 빌다 and 빌며
바라다 is the base form (or dictionary form) of the verb, while 바라며 is the -며 conjugations.
-며 form of a verb indicates the person is doing something while performing another action at the same time(웃으며 노래했다 = "sang (while) smiling).
It can also connect two general clauses, like "(clause 1), and (clause 2)" (전쟁은 끝났으며 장병들은 가정으로 돌아갔다).
-기 바라다 is a form of using 바라다 with a verb, in the sense of "hope/wish to (do something)".
빌다 is similar to 바라다 but has the connotation of begging to someone powerful such as God, like "pray" in English.
Examples:
- 너의 성공을 바란다 = I hope you succeed (I hope for your success). ("너의 성공" is a noun phrase, like "your success")
- 네가 성공하기(를) 바란다 = I hope you succeed. ("네가 성공하기" is a clause, like "that you will succeed")
- 너의 성공을 빌어 = I pray for your success.
- 네가 성공하기(를) 빌어 = I pray that you succeed.
- 그는 동생이 성공하기(를) 빌며 [바라며] 떠나 보냈다 = He saw his younger brother off wishing him success.
