Remake means that a film is made after a previous film and is almost a copy of the previous film. Themes, thematic elements, and characters will be the same and have the same motivations. A remake will often hold the previous film in a high regard and respect. A reboot is made after a previous film but changes a lot of themes and characters and motivations. A reboot will often have different stylisic elements and will attempt to distance itself from the previous film. Reboots will also have a different continuity from the previous film.

A reboot means they entirely revamped the plot and actors but the name stays the same like what they recently did with the Mummy with Tom Cruise and several times with Spider Man, Batman and lots of other superhero films in order to gain popularity for a series of movies (franchise) or sequels and or TV spin offs. A remake stays more true to the original film but modernizing the graphics or story like The Great Gatsby or Starsky and Hutch and remakes are usually only are one off films and not intended to have sequels.
