커뮤니티 튜터Curious question
Hi,
since 完玩 means "game over", and 玩玩 means "to play a little bit", and since thay have the same tone, if a mother say to her children "完玩!" like "stop having fun" (because then she wants to tell the kids to start study etc), could then come up a pun and be understood like "玩玩!" ?
I don't mean a real misunderstanding, of course, since I immagine that if chinese people want to make themselves understood they have many ways, bust maybe just a sort of playful wordplay? I don't know if you ever thought about this, but for me having the same tone and Pinyin in two expressions that mean the opposite is curious and interesting, even though I'm sure there will be always context and other words to help with but every language has words that people (I mean natives) may joke about since they might carry with them some sort of fun, and I don't know if the ones I wrote above might be one of these.

haha ,that's a cute question. but Chinese don't say "完玩"at all ,we say "玩完"sometimes ,it means 完蛋, isn't as simple as "game over ".In this situation ,mom will say "别玩了!”, so children will know they should stop .
In Chinese ,we do have lots of joke about partial tone, here is one of them ,I don't know if you can understand that ,hahaha ,I think it's funny .
有个人叫阿爽,一天他死了。 他的家人在家里放声大哭:“爽啊!爽啊!” 他们的邻居看到了后就问他们发生什么事情了。 他们说:“爽死了,爽死了。”

we don't say "完玩",we say "玩完". just like the above person said, it isn't the same of "game over". In fact, the completely word is "玩完了", if we say this as a joke, it is like "game over". so few people will say this to stop something. as for 玩玩,it is indeed the meaning of play a little. can you understand what I mean?

“玩完”和“玩玩”发音是不同的。只有南方人才会发成相同,你让播音员发一下,一下子就能区分开。前者重音在完上,而后都要加儿化音同时重音在第一个音节上。所以,一听就是两个不同的词。
