Explain the idea of this sentence to me, please! "His boots click once in the air"

It's difficult to answer this questions without more details. However, generally speaking, we use the word click to describe the sound that shoes or boots make when we bring our heels together. If his boots clicked once in the air, he probably jumped/hopped off the ground. Usually we do this when we're happy, for example, "He jumped for joy." There are two images that come to mind 1) in the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy clicked her heels to move 2) a happy man jumping in the air clicking his heels together to show happiness so I need more back ground to help
