I agree,that literature is too personal. So, when you are reading & the time is flying away with a speed of ..you know ..very quickly..; this book is very good, but only for you. And on the contrary, you are trying to read something with hard efforts, you are working very hard, try to begin again &again, only coz somebody says :"Oh, its perfect, very usefull, or, simple, very modern". In last , this literature is bad, but the same, ONLY for you!

Bad literature is too personal. You read it and you don't care. Only the author cares. Good literature (like any good art) touches something universal that we resonate with. You can waste a lot of time debating what makes art 'good' or 'bad'. But I would say this: when it is good, everyone can see it. Even if they don't like it, they can feel the power of it.

Good literature must not show us is personnage good or bad. We have to guess it from a text. Also good literature must create something new, it must be moral, interesting, not boring, written not in spoken language but in literary one.

Hello Khushi, I think it is partly personal and relative and partly has to do with the author's style of writing ,describing and linking paragraphs. It is not really fair to divide literature into bad and good. Some topics and events will appeal to some people and not the others. I always wondered what makes me think that a novel is superb and I couldn't leave the book until I finished it and other books could bore me from the first pages,that I would just decide not to continue reading it. Maybe books are like people, you can't easily tell why you feel attracted to that person and dislike the other. It is partly looks,style ,personality etc.... Literature includes so many factors beside style of writing like events, characters , descriptions of both, the story elements and above all the peculiar style of the author. But again if some books are generally favored and become best sellers, so there are surely some elements and criteria that render some literature more appealing than other.
