What is the difference? They do serve large portions of very hot food. They do have large portions of very hot food.

Hi Harry In terms of a menu in a restaurant or bar, you could use both sentences. If you just look a the verbs, there is a difference in meaning. 'To serve' is used especifically in a restaurant, shop or bar and it refers to the act of dealing with a customer or client by taking their order - in this case very hot food -. (Note that 'to serve' can have other meanings as well, e.g. 'to serve a ball' in tennis). Regards Karen

The difference in meaning is of little consequence since it can be assumed that both sentences are offering food to the customers. If you want to split hairs, you might say that... serve means they actively make it available and/or bring it to the customers. have means it's available to the customers. Basically the same thing.
