Hello MichiganStar, If nothing happens when you click on "chat now" check their state ,some members will be in " offline" mode ,otherwise they would be receiving your message. If this problem persists even if they appear "online",you might be using an older version of the browser Internet Explorer IE6 ? If so then download IE7 or more. If you are using Firefox Mozilla or others they should be working as well. If still the problem exists you better contact one of italki moderators for help. There are other ways to email the members: - Send them messages "Message" ,they will receive it instantly as an email message. - Send them Add requests "Add as friend" with an attached message . Not everyone will respond positively ,just keep looking and you will eventually bump into suitable language partners. Good luck:)

There is another option , Add to Friends. After clicking on it, you can send out a friends invitation to this member. Do include a brief intro about yourself. If the Chat Now and Messages are in black, you can directly send chat invitation or messages. If they are shown in gray, you will have to become their friends first.
