The phenomenon of words that resemble sounds is "onomatopoeia." The adjective is "onomatopoetic." So, we are talking about onomatopoetic words. Some onomatopoetic words in English include "murmur," "rustle," "susurration," "tintinabulation," "lullaby," "buzz," "whisper," "whistle," "gasp," and "wheeze." They also include many words that are references to the sounds animals make: a dog's bark, a lion's roar, a bird's chirp, a cat's meow, a pig's oink, a crow's caw, a turkey's gobble. Some birds and animals have onomatopoetic names, names that resemble sounds the animals make, such as "cuckoo," "pewee," "whippoorwill," "katydid," "cicada." "Trot" and "gallop" resemble the sounds a horse's hooves make when it trots or gallops. (I am referring to actual dictionary words here. There are also traditional print representations of noises, that are not real dictionary words, such as "Cock-a-doodle-doo!" for a rooster's crow, "Bow-wow!" for a dog... "Zzzzzzzzzzz" for a person snoring).
