Hi there. I'm sorry you're unconvinced so far but I'm new to italki as of the past month and can say that this is actually a pretty amazing community! If you looked for a partner living a specific area, maybe you could loosen up your restrictions. I've had lots of success by doing a general search and then adding or messaging people who I was curious about and it can be helpful to message with a few people until you find out who's committed to talking as well as who's a good fit for you! The conversation won't flow easily with everybody. I do suggest you try again though! I'm learning Spanish and Japanese, and now have a friend in Columbia who I've videochatted and messaged with regularly for a few weeks, and two people from Japan who have been committed to talking for a few weeks as well. You'll make friends! Good luck!

Hi Chepi: maybe someone would write you directly to your box of messages in the next days or maybe you have to try again writing to a person that puts in his or her profile that is looking for an exchange Spanish-English. I also write a message in the part of exchanges and no one answered me, but I tried it again asking to a person that was looking for an exchange German-Spanish and I have a positive answer and now I'm having an exchange with this person. Then, after few days, a person wrote me to have also an exchange and lately another person wrote me for the same because he saw my answers in the page of Answers. But even if you get a person for an exchange, not always both of you want the same kind of exchange...Luckily, the first person is very good for an exchange for me. :) So, be patient and look for people that put in their profiles that want the same as you.

UPDATE: I’ve just re-read your question — you say you didn’t get a single result? I thought you meant you’d sent out lots of messages and hadn’t gotten any replies. I just tried the search myself (Native Spanish, learning English, living in Medellín), and found over 200 (then I got tired of scrolling down and hitting “show more”). Admittedly, only the first 40 or so have logged in in the last seven days, but still, I'm sure several of them would love to hear from you.

Chepi, italki is designed for meeting millions of users all over the world — there are other sites for local searches. On italki, you can meet lots of people for language exchange via your favorite video-conferencing software, so there’s no reason to exclude people from Bogota´and other parts of Colombia, to say nothing of the other 20 Spanish-speaking countries.
