A shared experience is something that you do together with another person/other people. It could be something simple like cooking food, or something more adventurous like mountain climbing!
To give an example of what your text is saying, eating a pizza alone could make someone in the west happy, but cooking a pizza together could make people in some parts of Africa and India happy.

it can also be used for a bad event you and some one experienced together.
