"In School" or "At School"? Dear English Speakers, I read an interesting article on the usage of "in school" and "at school". In AmE, "being in school" means "being a student" (it refers to any kind of education), while "being at school" means "currently being gone to school". In BrE, "being in school" means "being a pupil" (usually not a university student). While "being at school" can mean either "being a pupil" or "currently being gone to school". My questions are: (1) Can I use both phrases to make other sentences, i.e. "I am a teacher at school" or "I am a teacher in a private school"? (2) Is it common to say "I am in school" which implies "I'm in college" or "I'm at university" in the U.S.? Thank you for your time and help. I really appreciate it.

"in" - physically inside a place. 在裡面. at = "at" in the general area 在. "I am a teacher in XXX" is wrong. Use "at". "The teacher is in the class" is correct. Using "at" is wrong. "I am in school" 我在学校 裡面 or "I am at school" 我在学校 are both correct but the meanings are different. The first one means you are physically inside the school area. It can be that you are a teacher. Need more context to deduce. The second one means that you are doing some activity in the school. I live in Indonesia 對. 用 "at" 錯. I live at 27 XXX Road, 對. 用 "in" 錯. #2. 非也! 意思是我是学生, 是高中生, 是大学生 etc 不朋. 要看答者年來推測. 若不能可再問而知

Basically, that article was incorrect. You should disregard it and not worry at all about what preposition you use.

In the U.S., saying "I am in school" commonly implies being enrolled in college or university. It's a widely accepted expression reflecting ongoing higher education.
