If you want to study manga and animation in Japan, I have heard that Nihon Kogakuin College is one of the best schools. They provide a curriculum based on manga, animation and character etc. www.neec.ac.jp/cie/us/animation/anime.html

The Japanese in Japan speak only Japanese. They are shy but very friendly, if you can communicate with them, you wil get a lot of help from them. Believe me, if you ask them the direction, they wouldn't tell you, they will take you there. ( I mean they will walk with you to that place). The major problem is the language barrier. For the Animation Part, it is better to do your home work before you go. If you don't have any resources. Try google search.

agree with takuya, japanese people don't really try to make friends so actively, especially with foreigners who cannot speak japanese fluently. i don't know any university that has a course relates to animation. career colleges are more popular and hard core for animations i suppose

If you have open-minded, you can make friends in Japan. But you don't have one, it is difficult for you to make, because Japanese are so shy,, so if you wanna make friends, you should talk them from you. And as for animation, you are right, it's depend on the school. But if you wanna learn it, you should be able to master Japanese enough to listen to it, and speak to it..
